“In developing the Estonian road network, the Road Administration has taken a clear direction to make roads safer for road users,” said Ando Voogma, Member of the Management Board of Nordecon AS. “The reconstruction of the section between the Missokülä-Hindsa section and the Misso small town also makes the road surface smoother and the lateral visibility is increased by removing the roadside scrub. Safety islands will be built at intersections, and safety islands will also be built in the direction of entry into Misso small town to slow down the traffic.
“In addition to the sections of Missokülä-Hindsa and Misso small town of the main road No. 7 Riga-Pihkva, the reconstruction also covers the recovery repair of the cover of the main road No. 2 Tallinn-Tartu-Võru-Luhamaa km 268,588–274,955, and moreover, two more dangerous places in terms of traffic will be eliminated: with the help of chicanes on the secondary road Kööpa-Obinitsa-Petseri km 9, 6-9.7 in Otsa village, and the Võrumõisa intersection at 0.882 in Võru-Põlva km is being rebuilt,” said Ain Pähkel, Director of Road Construction. "During the construction of Missokülä-Hindsa, temporary traffic control is used, and both passenger cars and pedestrians need to follow signs of temporary traffic control."
During construction, the road embankment will be repaired, a new drainage layer will be built, ditches will be cleaned, old ones will be repaired, and new culverts will be built. The new pavement is a double-layered asphalt concrete cover on a complex stabilized base. The section in Misso small town will be illuminated. 1.5 km of foot and bike paths will be built, and the Misso car park will be reconstructed. New traffic control devices will be installed, bus stops will be reconstructed, and road 2 junction will be channelled using elevated traffic islands.
Missokülä-Hindsa construction works will last for 7 months, construction will begin in April 2019 and will be completed November 2019. The main designer is Skepast&Puhkim OÜ.
