Nordecon is about to start constructing the fifth apartment building at the address 37 Savi Street in the Uus-Tammelinn housing estate in Tartu. The five-storey apartment building with 25 apartments will be ready by the end of 2016. 37 Savi Street is the only house equipped with a lift in the area.
"The apartment building at 37 Savi Street has a lift, which makes it one of a kind in Tammelinn," said Tooma Rell, the regional manager of Nordecon AS in South Estonia. “Nordecon started with the construction of a new residential area in Savi and Haraka streets in Tammelinn, Tartu, in the spring of 2014. By today, three buildings have been completed. The fourth will be ready in a few months in May, and the fifth, the construction of which we are about to start, by the end of the year. These buildings are also perfect for families with children – the neighbourhood is nice and quiet while also having a well-functioning infrastructure.”
Altogether nine buildings will be built in the area. The three- to five-storey apartment buildings have 15 to 25 apartments, respectively. The architect of the buildings is Indrek Näkk from the architectural firm INA. The buildings in Uus-Tammelinn have one-, two-, three- and four-room apartments. The premises can be accessed via the newly-constructed Savi Street. Each apartment has a balcony which can be entered through the living room. The big four-room apartments have a sauna and an additional balcony in one of the bedrooms.
Tammelinn in Tartu is one of the first modern garden suburbs in Estonia. The design of the garden suburb was developed in 1923. The mixed principle was used for the housing. In addition to detached houses, the area between Riia Street and Tamme Avenue was also planned for apartment buildings. The design and construction of Tamme garden suburb has been architecturally compared to the Nõmme and Merivälja garden suburbs in Tallinn and the resort area of Pärnu.
Tammelinn has a good district school and an upper secondary school opened in 2015. Both schools are within a few-minute walking distance from the planned apartment buildings. According to the investment plan of the city of Tartu, a new kindergarten will be built within a couple of hundred metres from the apartment buildings in a few years time.
