Nordecon AS has entered into a contract with Riigi Kinnisvara AS for construction and reconstruction work on the educational building located at Seminari tn 1 in Võru. The total cost of the work on the building, which is to become Võru State Secondary School, is almost 3.35 million euros without VAT, including the contracting entity’s reserve.
“The school’s due to open its doors to students from the county next September, and it will provide them with a truly contemporary learning environment that meets every requirement,” said Avo Ambur, a member of the management board of Nordecon AS. “And it won’t just be the building on Seminari Street itself that gets a new look – the area around it will as well. At the same time, as the builders we have to take into account the history that comes with a building erected in the mid-18th century, not just the function it’ll fulfil in the future. It’s an interesting challenge that will see us relying on all our experience in this area, as well as adding to it.”
The existing building, which is due for reconstruction, is the oldest in Võru and a listed historical monument. The neighbouring brick extension erected in the 1960s will be demolished, with a new reinforced concrete structure built in its place which will follow the lay of the land. It will be two storeys tall with a basement level. The new and existing sections of the school will be connected by a gallery constructed largely of glass. The usable net area of the school will be 3219 m2, of which the new extension will comprise more than half.
Construction work on the school will commence in July 2014 and continue for a year.
Construction of Võru State Secondary School is being financed by Enterprise Estonia and the Ministry of Education and Research through Riigi Kinnisvara AS, which was selected to organise the public procurement.
