Yesterday Nordecon AS concluded an agreement with OÜ Järve Biopuhastus for the performance of the design and construction works for the extension of Kohtla-Järve sewage treatment plant. The cost of the works is approximately 3.5 million euros without VAT.

"Environmental projects with this size can be count on the fingers of one hand — compared to the previous year, the construction of installations has substantially decreased in Estonia," said Avo Ambur, Member of the Board of Nordecon AS. "For Nordecon, the construction of the extension of Kohtla-Järve sewage treatment plant is currently the largest water and sewage project and already in one and a half years we hope to hand over to the customer a contemporary sewage treatment plant."

"Nordecon has cooperated with Järve Biopuhastus before. In late autumn of 2012 we concluded an agreement for the construction of the first part of the joint plumbing and sewage system of Kiviõli town and these works have now been successfully completed," added Avo Ambur.

According to Avo Ambur, the agreement stipulates the preparation of a preliminary design and work drawings of the regional sewage treatment plant of Kohtla-Järve. In order to increase the performance of the sewage treatment plant and improve the technological process, a fourth parallel biological cleaning line together with the relevant installations will be built. "The task of Nordecon is to design and reconstruct the existing sewage treatment plant in a way that the existing plant would function smoothly even during the construction works," said Avo Ambur.

The extension of Kohtla-Järve sewage treatment plant is a public procurement, the co-financier of which is the EU Cohesion Fund. The planned duration of the design and construction works is 550 days.
