Nordecon AS has completed the final stage of reconstruction of the Sillamäe city water supply that started early last year. The cost of installing the new pipe systems, pump rooms and water filtering systems was €2.3M excluding VAT.
"We were really pleased to dot the final I and cross the final T on the Sillamäe water supply reconstruction, which we’d been doing in stages for the past seven years," said Erkki Suurorg, a member of the management board of Nordecon AS. "Now the people of Sillamäe have the use of a water supply that’s equipped with modern technology and which ensures that quality drinking water reaches people without any issues. We’ve also finished the necessary additions to the waste water treatment plant."
According to Suurorg, Nordecon started Stage III of the Sillamäe city pipe and water filtration system reconstruction planning and construction works in February 2014, during which nearly 1.5 km of pipes were installed and house connections and water hydrants were replaced. Also, nearly 1.9 km of downstream waste water drainage was established.
The works also included installing water filtration systems in pump rooms in medium-sized and micro-districts and installing post-filtration devices in the waste water treatment plant.
AS Sillamäe Veevärk, an infrastructure company owned by the City of Sillamäe, financed the project, with co-financing from the Cohesion Fund via the Environmental Investment Centre.
