Nordecon completed the extension project of Kilingi-Nõmme public water supply and sewerage system ahead of schedule

Nordecon AS has completed the planning and construction of public water supply and sewerage system that was ordered by OÜ Saarde Kommunaal. The project cost over 1.1 million euros (without VAT); 80% of this sum was a grant from the Environmental Investment Centre (EIC).

"We started the project in April, and even though the complicated soil conditions exasperated the construction somewhat, we were able to finish all contractual tasks ahead of time," said Reedik Raudla, Civil Engineering Director of Nordecon AS. "The schedule was tight because surveying, design and applying for permits always takes time before the actual work can begin,"

"During the construction period, the planned speed of construction was slowed down by the high level of ground water; therefore, we relied on wellpoint dewatering pumps more than usual in order to ensure quality," explained Project Manager Jaanus Kukk. "Due to good weather this autumn, we managed to complete the restoration of roads and green areas as required. In addition to its Client, Nordecon project team would like to thank its partners and all local inhabitants, because as a rule, without cooperation it is impossible to complete a project at a high level of quality ahead of schedule."

EIC supported the project with 867,560 euros; out of this, 747,464 euros came from the European Cohesion Fund, and 120,096 euros from the environmental programme.

"As a result of the project, many more Kilingi-Nõmme inhabitants can now connect their homes to the public water supply and sewerage system, which is now accessible to almost 75% of the inhabitants. New pipelines are going ensure that water losses and environmental pollution load are significantly lower," explained Member of the Board of EIC Andrus Kimber. "I would like to commend the Saarde Rural Municipality Government who were very determined in their activities and completed the project successfully," added Andrus Kimber.

"Saarde Kommunaal OÜ would like to thank Nordecon and all its partners for the successful completion of the project," said the Head of Saarde Kommunaal OÜ Morten Aasaroht. "For us, reconstructing and extending the public water supply and sewerage system of Kilingi-Nõmme was a large project that included several funders: the construction of the public water supply was funded by the European Union Cohesion Fund and the Kilingi-Nõmme water management project of the waste water collection area; rain water project was co-funded by the environmental programme of the Environmental Investment Centre."

Nordecon and its subcontractor built about 4.5 km of water pipes, about 0.8 km of pressure ducts and 1.5 km of rain water pipes. Around 8.2 km of trenches were also constructed.
