Nordecon AS and Estonia Spa Hotels AS have entered into a contract for services which will see two buildings in the Estonia Spa complex – the Green and White buildings – fully reconstructed. Design work on the redevelopment project is being handled by KOKO architects, with the total cost of design and construction projected to be 8.3 million euros plus VAT. The project is being financed by Swedbank AS.
“Signing such a large-scale construction contract is fantastic for us as the builders – particularly in a situation where there’s far less Structural Funds money on the construction market this year than there has been in previous years,” explained Avo Ambur, a member of the management board of Nordecon AS. “Any investments designed to improve your branch of the economy are gratifying, and often unavoidable. In this case they’ll benefit not just us and the client, but Pärnu itself and the Estonian spa sector as a whole.”
Estonia Spa Hotels AS director Andrus Aljas says the contract will enable the company to realise its development plans: a contemporary hotel and spa complex will be erected next to the long-standing medical spa (the Park building) which, in addition to the conference centre that is also to be built, will allow the spa to offer clients services that are more multi-faceted and of higher quality.
Andrus Kõresaare, a representative of KOKO Architects, says the Estonia Spa will gain a new and very unique interior design whose keywords are ‘modern Estonian holiday centre’. “We’ve taken our inspiration from the natural environment here in Estonia, as well as local traditions, handicrafts and culture,” he explained, adding that construction of the new pool and sauna complex will add a wellness category to the spa.
According to plans, the Green building will be redesigned throughout, including all of its guest rooms, of which there will be 106. The White building will gain an extension, forming an entirely new complex with the main structure: the first floor will feature a conference centre, while the second floor will be home to rooms for spa procedures and the third floor will house the sauna and water centre.
The construction work commissioned by Estonia Spa Hotels AS is due for completion by June 2015. Once the designs are finalised, building work will commence on the White building in August and the Green building in October.
