Today, at Estonia’s largest BIM conference BIMsummit, American BIM expert Erik Sanford said that the objective of BIM is to improve tasks and processes. It is important to find a right tool for each task. BIMsummit conference was opened by Jaak Aaviksoo.
“There is no point in buying a Porsche if what you really need is a Citroen – even the most deft rally drivers began slowly. In other words – choose a correct tool to solve your task,” BIM expert Erik Sanford said. “The aim of BIM is to improve performances and processes. Learn about BIM technologies and choose the right one – the kind that helps to make your work easier. At first begin small.”
“We all get exited whet someone shows us cool technology. But interesting is not always useful. Be careful and invest in things that are useful, not things that are interesting,” Erik Sanford stated. “Implementing new technologies takes time. The most important part of this process is education – knowledge. Jeremy Thibodeau and I are direct competitors, but we meet and work together to promote BIM technology as much as possible.”
According to Erik Sanford, the most important thing is for the executives to be familiar with BIM technologies – they must know general BIM theories and uses. “Extensive knowledge of BIM helps the managers to decide whether BIM has a place in their company. Even basic knowledge on information modeling helps the managers to understand how complex and rich in opportunities BIM is.”
